Two other reports of transient HTTP errors in the "Problems and Technical Issues with Rosetta@home" thread. Still no such issues on my systems.

Maybe contact & compare ISPs and geographic location with those others that are reporting such issues? Tracert to the Rosetta servers and see what results you are all getting?

This is what i get.

Admittedly, I didn't think of a Trace, but I was one of the "Transient" reporters (and eventually got the files to download). Located in Missouri, USA; Google Fiber 300 Mbps (and trying to download onto two different Android devices).

I am still having this problem on all my Linux machines, they never download, I was leaving it for a few days but had to abort them. Now I just retry a few times no change so I abort them.

I have not run a Linux work unit for over 3 months due to this issue.

It appears that my brothers Windows machine is not having these problems.

What gives?

Does anyone know?

Thanks

Most likely the expired SSL/Security certificate for one or more Rosetta download/upload servers that's been a problem for a few months now.

From a posting in Troubleshooting topic:
Someone found that if the line
128.95.160.156 boinc-files.bakerlab.org

is included in the /etc/Hosts file that things work better.

This work around does seem to work, thank you to whoever came up with this.

Conan

EDIT:: Spoke to soon, all failing downloads all downloaded after this fix installed. Then they all errored out with output file absent.

I will await the next lot of work units to see if it works.
If it still fails then I will just set the project to No New Work and forget about it.
Shouldn't still have this issue more than 3 Months since reported.

For some time now, the client has been getting units but can't download them. The deadline is reached and more units are being obtained but still can't download them.

Is this from me or Rosetta?
No problem with my other projects.

Ok...
And can I fix it on my side or does Rosetta have to do it?
I know where to find /etc/Hosts on Windows. But on Android, I have no idea...

On Android there is no known fix unless you have rooted the device and then your on your own.

Windows, Mac, Linux just edit the hosts file with the info on a new line and save changes. Usually no need to reboot.

I used the BOINC 7.16.20 x64 for a long time. Recently I could not download new Rosetta tasks. Then I updated the BOINC to 8.0.2 version. The Rosetta and other projects worked OK, except the Einstein@Home one. I posted to E@H forum a topic about this problem, but nobody could give a proper solution. So I reversed using the BOINC 7.16.20 version again, because you and some other people can fix the problem of “no downloading Rosetta tasks”.
I am not an IT so I don’t know where to find /etc/Hosts on Windows and how to fix it.
Could you please help me.

To edit the Hosts file, follow these steps:

Open Notepad as Administrator:
Search for "Notepad" in the Windows search bar.
Instead of left-clicking it, right-click on Notepad and select "Run as administrator"
When the dialog box pops up select Yes

To open the Hosts File: In Notepad:
Go to File > Open.
Navigate to C//Windows/System32/drivers/etc which will appear empty
Change the file type filter from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files".
Select the "hosts" file and click "Open"

Edit the Hosts File:
On a fresh line at the bottom, type
128.95.160.156 boinc-files.bakerlab.org
Save the file

That should be it.
No need to reboot.
Return to Boinc manager, select Rosetta and click the "Update" button.

Following your instruction, I got the Rosetta tasks downloaded.

And can I fix it on my side or does Rosetta have to do it?

Only Rosetta can "fix" that, but there are workarounds (one of them being "modifying hosts") for volunteers.

I know where to find /etc/Hosts on Windows. But on Android, I have no idea...

You can install personalDNSfilter from F-Droid, and add a custom rule (e.g. host entry). personalDNSfilter filters DNS requests sent from your phone, it can also modify DNS response so your phone get 128.95.160.156 when it lookup boinc-files.bakerlab.org .

Good news.
I re-checked your tasks and found something very interesting indeed.
At first I thought you'd written it here inaccurately (because you aren't an IT expert) but you were quite right.
You upgraded from Boinc 7.16.20 to 8.0.2 and your Rosetta tasks started working, which is confirmed in your results, then stopped working when you downgraded Boinc again.
How could Rosetta start working after a Boinc upgrade (I'll ignore your Einstein problem for this exercise)?
Does the hosts file get changed in Boinc upgrades?
Would the same happen if Boinc was reinstalled?
Is this a solution to the continuing problem under Android?

I've been too busy to experiment the last few days so I haven't tested this theory, but it can't do any harm to try.
Does someone else have time to test it for us?
What I'm wondering is if the admins here think they've put in a fix but it only works with a reinstallation, otherwise this edit is needed.

I've explained myself very badly, but if anyone sees what I'm getting at, please have a go.

A while back everyone had to upgrade BOINC, or manually update their security certificates (ca-bundle.crt) as the ones with the older BOINC versions had a certificate that was no longer valid.

Apparently Rosetta made changes at their server so it wasn't necessary- maybe that is why there are now issues occurring with their download servers?

Using older versions of BOINC
Client: security certificate expired #3789
