with minirosetta now using a separate application for graphics, we should be able to provide graphics since the worst that could happen is no graphics if the required libraries are missing rather than killing the working process. We'll try to build a linux graphics app soon for minirosetta. |

Greetings, Now that I got a multi-core CPU based PC (some of which are unused most of the time), I started again crunching some WUs and just joined Rosetta. Alas, like with many other BOINC projects, there is no support for graphics under Linux :-( That sucks, because Linux is probably the best platform aroung for OpenGL graphics (got OpenGL games that run much faster under Linux than under Windoze). Pretty please, do provide us with graphics under Linux ! Memory is no more an issue nowadays (my PC got 4Gb of RAM...)... |

Pretty please, do provide us with graphics under Linux ! I believe that they are developing a version on Ralph at the moment. a quote from the Ralph homepage is: July 14, 2008 I have been running the windows version over there and the new mini graphics version is very good. |

Ralph is the test site for the work units done on Rosetta. Quote:New application versions, work units, and updates in general will be tested here before being used for production. The goal for RALPH@home is to improve Rosetta@home. Have a look - http://ralph.bakerlab.org/ |

Don't hold your breath. Work only comes when they are testing something new. |

Don't hold your breath. Work only comes when they are testing something new. I finally started using Rosetta with BOINC again when they got the graphics client working. |

Have they managed to fix graphics output for the Rosetta@home now? I want to use Linux as much as possible and do miss the graphics which I got from the Windows system. I have been running rosetta@home for years now. |

I don't understand why there there is such a fuss. Graphics...No Graphics...who cares. I am running a dozen or so systems with various Windows and Linux versions and never look at the graphics. I am donating to the science. If you have to see the graphics, load up a windows system. I picked up 2 boxes from the trash last week. I just hooked em up to a KVM switch, loaded up some software and BAM. Now I have friends offering me boxes. By the way, I loaded up one of the boxes with Ubuntu just to try it out. I set up CENTOS just to provide some web services and added BOINC/Rosetta to it to use up the slack cycles. I never even considered they wouldn't display the project Graphics. I really hope the programmers for the project spend time getting the calculations correct and worry about the small stuff only while in the mens/ladies room. ![]() |

I agree. And for those who want to "show your friends Rosetta folding proteins", keep in mind that 95% or more of the computing world does not use Linux, so odds are THEY will see them just fine on their machine - unless somehow you are only friends with other Linux users. I think the project team is allocating their resources just fine, thank you. I run Linux Mint 7 (2.6.28-11), BTW cheers from Canada |

For some reason, users who don't care about graphics seem to think this thread is for them. It's not. It's for the users that use linux and want to see graphics. It's for the guys that make rosetta to remind them that there are some linux users who want the eye candy. For you users that look at a black and white screen all day, just move along, this thread is not for you. |

Wow, what an abrasive & rude reply. "move along" Nice. You'll go far with that attitude. Rosetta mini 1.98 does have graphics working, at least on my machine. Perhaps someday you'll have your wish, and eye-candy will be forthcoming for the main application & the screen-saver. Somehow, I think you've made your wish clear... over.. and over... and over... Enjoy your forum experience.
