When I re-started doing BOINC I attached to Rosetta and though I was uncomfortable with the "Beta" tag, I stuck with it. I even upped my participation to try to drive my RAH number over SAH ...

But, it seems that all the work here is some form of beta test and I cannot really grasp the goals and the, to me at least, confusing messages from the project.

I will keep an eye here, and when ya'll get back to non-beta applications and are ready to run I will consider coming back. But, what little, um, passion I had to do RAH has been replaced by growing concerns about the real operational status and current roadmap for this project.

After reading the thread on mini-rosetta ... um ... no ... I don't want to be doing testing ...it is just not my cup of tea ...

Paul, your RAC has made it back to 1,600. Have you seen, on your machines, any problems or symptoms that indicate you are doing testing?

All I see in reviewing your task lists is "Over Success Done". And I've seen no posts from you indicating you've had any difficulties or unexpected behavior at all.

Think about the word "test". For every single SETI WU, your machine is to "test" whether there are any signals from ET. On Rosetta, every single WU is to "test" the lowest energy level that can be found from a given starting perspective. And when a new Rosetta version is created, part of making sure the science has indeed improved is to repeat some of the studies ("tests") you've run previously to confirm that your results with the new code are as good or better then the prior version.

So you hear a lot about the word "test". And yes, no computer program is perfect (just ask your favorite Billionare), and therefore, in theory, more testing would have resolved all of the bugs... but you aren't running test code here.

I read the thread on the new application that, based on what I read, is being 'slipstreamed" into the main line ... and the fact that the current application is labeled "beta" ...

I have not had any problems ... yet ... but neither am I interested in tempting fate.

But that is why I try to avoid the test projects, I have little left in me for day-to-day struggles ...

Re: Microsoft ... that is because they have never engineered a product yet. MS is a large collection of hackers grouped into large buildings and turned loose.

I shan't go into the whole ball of wax here ... but, if you are interested send me a PM and if you have it we can connect on Skype and maybe I can explain it better ...

For the moment ... my attention is elsewhere now ... I think I am done with all my RAH work ... oops, one more task to go on one computer ...
