When will we see 64 bit WU??? When will use the 100% of power of the 64 bits processors? |

I don't think that would speed it up too much. It would be alot better and more effective too optimize it for different SSE versions and get GPU crunching before 64bit stuff comes along. |

That reminds me. Why doesn't rosetta release the code like SETI@Home does? For instance, there are many optimized seti apps for different CPUs ![]() |

Because they can't afford to have rogue clients that report incorrect results. I believe SETI's redundancy means it's not really an issue for them. The Rosetta code needs to be controlled. Anyone can apply to get the source code though. I don't think that would speed it up too much. Anyone can apply to get the source code though. Seti has had problems with their 'optimized' programs in the past.! They use different multipliers so you actually get more credit for using the 'optimized' versions than you do using the 'official' version. When they asked the writer of the 'optimized' version to cut back, they were told no! It was a mess!!! I do not remember how they finally solved it but just cutting off the 'optimized' versions results was not an option! Keeping control of the process probably became a bit more important to other projects as they watched from the sidelines. |

And the code for the rosetta apps changes rather frequently. I See another version is released now. It is not all that long ago that version 1.97 was new. I can imagine supporting all those apps for the different platforms is difficult as it is, without adding to the burden by supporting GPU's and 64 bit-apps. I'm not sure what advantage there would be from using a 64-bit application anyway?!? |

Well, it is difficult to assess a 64bit advantage without actually trying it. But all of the points brought up are certainly part of why there is not a 64bit version now. I just wanted to point out, as dcdc pointed out, if anyone was interested in working on a 64bit version the source code can be licensed free for academic purposes. Here is a link for more info.
