Hi, I posted the following problem this morning in the Windows Questions and Answers section. I have been advised that this section is more appropriate. I was also advised that I was confusing problems regarding signatures, one of which has been solved. Whether this problem is caused by unsigned problems or not it is still a problem which causes tasks to fail with "computation error". It seems that new versions of Minirosetta (now 1.98) are being released and causing validation problems with some anti- virus programs. My anti-virus system, Kaspersky, denies these new versions and deems them as being potentially dangerous. I believe it to be the same problem regarding unsigned programs which I understood to have been resolved. This problem with the introduction of new versions of Minirosetta needs resolving as it is a waste of resources both for system administrators and users. Can you please update us with your understanding of the problem and what is being done to resolve it. Cheers |

This issue has been coming up for a long while and certain workarounds have been suggested. Look at my post here for something that should be ok with Norton 360 (though N360 doesn't produce any errors for Rosetta). There's bound to be a similar process for Kaspersky, Eset NOD32 and Norton Internet Security, which have all been reported as suffering this issue. It's also worth looking up and down that thread for the kind of problems people have faced. The theory goes, if the directories in which the offending Boinc files are found are excluded from your scans, those false positives should never cause vital Rosetta files to be quarantined and cause your WUs fail with each new application version. It would be a one-off fix that would prevent any future waste of resources for sysadmins and users in the way you say. Please try it and report back if the procedure fails. ![]() ![]() |

Hi, What most of us have done is exclude the Boinc directories from the anti-virus checking and then all is okay. The problem is that virus writers try to emulate certain processes and Boinc seems to use some of those processes. Since Boinc only connects to the different Boinc websites it is unlikely we will get a virus thru Boinc. DO NOT turn off your anti-virus altogether just exclude the Boinc directories. I use Avast and awhile back it to had a problem too and since I excluded Boinc, it won't ever again either. |

That's the second week running I've had people look at the self-same message in the same minute as me. I've disconnected my webcam, but people still seem to know exactly what I'm doing.
