The Digital Darkroom DC team are looking for a new project. The DC project must fit into these categorys. It must be a worth while cause (no problem there) It must inform it's members of problems etc. It must not be a profit making organisation (is this a problem ? ) I am a member of the digital darkroom but have been doing a little bit of rosetta for TPR, and do like it but .. i realy have no clue if this is a profit making org ? |

I just moved over from d2ol because of the poor communication. It also seemed like they had no funding to go where they wanted and needed to go with the program. They did just hire the programmer but I don't see much coming anytime soon. As for this project I have found the communication better. If something goes out something is usually in the forums or the main page. As for being not for profit I found the answer you are looking for. https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=669 Q. Is Rosetta@Home non-profit? / Is someone going to make money out of my donated computer time? A. The Univerity of Washinton makes available the source code (the actual Rosetta algothim, which our donated computer power is helping improve) available to academics and other universities for free, and will eventually make the source code available to the puplic, when the possible cheating problem on BOINC is addressed. Hello dezyboy, Your conditions are also in our conditions for a project. As you have ran D2OL, I'd bet you know DutchPowerCows... So I want to welkom your team here, and hope we can get a competition here :) Rosetta is indeed non-profit. The communication is (up to now) much better than at D2OL. Member of Dutch Power Cows |

It's been about a year since I asked the lab that supposedly was testing the D2oL anthrax results - about their progress and was met with confusion. Even giving the PR person the name of the supposed scientist (who has actually published papers on Anthrax) resulted in no word on any contribution from D2oL or any of the people in charge. Did anyone find a miraculous study published which attributed the data to the D2oL project since I left? Let it not be said that I don't like being lied to.. but I prefer it being from ladies telling me in person that I'm the most wonderful person they've ever met *snicker* - not from the male admins of a dc project. Welcome aboard.. and be careful around here, as the staff actually do post more than once every few months. *grin* |
